DACS Clarity Headlite 2

Recently Dan Fitzgerald, Irish producer and owner of an original Clarity HeadLite, wanted a new amplifier with some special features. Though he and his artists were more than happy with the HeadLite's performance (he it was whose singer missed cues because she was enjoying the listening experience so much!) he wanted some additional functionality. He tried pretty much every unit on the market that did close to what he wanted, but in the end the audio performance of the Clarity Headlite was so much better than the competition that he called us to see if we could modify the new Clarity HeadLite 2 to meet his needs.
In basic terms, he wanted a 'more me' set
up with a stereo mix and a mono artist feed that could be mixed with the
stereo. After discussing with him exactly what he wanted to do, we were able to
propose a solution that cut the mustard for him. An additional stereo balanced
input was routed to each amplifier and inputs A-D were routed to amplifiers 1-4
respectively. These two signals (stereo main mix and mono 'me' signal) were
mixed to feed each channel (the routing switch was replaced by a
potentiometer). Rather than being fed from auxiliary outputs on a desk, the
amplifier was fed directly from his recorder. Outputs from this were at very
high levels, but we adjusted the input sensitivity to allow for +26dB signals.
Dan was very pleased with the results, as
were two of his artists. With the same headphones they had always used, but
with the new unit, two of his clients independently asked him where they could
get "headphones like these" because they sounded so good.
Dan told us....
"There has been a spate of sessions recently and repeatedly the unit is coming up trumps. It is rare for a particular item to draw attention to itself, however it has, again and again. The 'more me' feature allows a musician overdubbing in the Control room to control their own overall volume and mix, they love that! The same feature allows me to generate a buffered output for a guitar or bass tuner, keeping the recording path minimal."
