SurCode MLP Encoder
MLP, Meridian Lossless Packing, is an encoding system designed to losslessly compress high resolution audio for 100% accurate, bit for bit recovery of the encoded data on playback. Unlike "perceptual" or lossy data reduction systems, such as Dolby Digital and DTS, MLP guarantees not to alter the souce file in any way.
MLP has two main benefits:
- It minimizes the size of the compressed file, allowing a larger amount of audio to be stored on a DVD-A disc.
- It will reduce the maximum instantaneous peak data rate. This is needed to pack the 13.82 Mbps data rate of six channels of 24 bit/96 kHz PCM surround audio into the far smaller 9.6 Mbps limitation of the DVD standard.
