"I work on sounding right live - no masking or coloration (or noise) wanted. The Josephsons and DACS together (and I tested some other top-tier mics and pre's which are great - there's great stuff out there) quite simply is "reality at will".
Want to hear reality again? Hit rewind.
This rig is very capable but very humble; it expertly and skillfully makes itself un-noticed.
Also - this pre more than any pre gets backhanded compliments. "It will pick up your mistakes" - stuff like that. True - YOU did something when the record light was on - and on play back...you realized how you actually sound. Go practice.
What no one says, but which is an infinitely more relevant point: when you are brilliant...the DACS is at your service by not getting between you and your listener.
I bought the Clarity to use with Josephson C617 mics for classical guitar which is truly an amazing combo to record with; it really is like re-winding reality and re-experiencing it again at will. For a performing musician, this recording chain is a valuable tool in giving you a true picture of how you sound to your audience. You will change some playing nuances after you "sit in front of yourself" for the first time in your life. I also tried the Clarity on electric guitar and it's fantastic for that as well. If you feed it punch - that punch will be there on play back. If you feed it something lush and round...it will be there on play back. If you find yourself happy with the sound of the source but not the sound during playback - look to this mic amplifier as part of the solution."
